John Muir chooses Gentera for new continence, pelvic health unit. John Muir Health, the nonprofit health system, has chosen gentera tables to equip a new Center for Women’s Continence and Pelvic Health, an extension of its existing Women’s Health Center there. The new 1,480-square-foot center provides women with a program for diagnosing, treating and managing urinary and bladder problems, in a supportive environment, officials said. “Although one in three women is affected by incontinence, many are embarrassed to talk about it,” Dr. Sondra Altman, the new center’s medical director, said in a Feb. 2 statement. “Our team of expert physicians including urologists, gynecologists and colorectal physicians has designed a first-of-its-kind program in Contra Costa County.” Urinary and bladder problems can result from various causes, Muir officials said, including childbirth, hormone imbalances, neurological disorders and diet. The new center is also staffed by four other health professionals -- a nurse practitioner, physical therapist, urodynamics technician and licensed vocational nurse -- supported by the Women’s Health Center’s operational staff, customer service department, appointments unit and the like. A group of 20 specialist physicians, including urologoists, OB/GYN and others, help to guide and develop the new program, said hospital spokesman Ben Drew.
